Celebrity Cruises: Ask a Question Cruise Critic Message Board Forums

The cabin was cleaned twice daily with chocolates on the pillows on nights one and two only. There was a substantial amount of rust on the balcony and visible on many of the balcony supports above us and visible from windows in the Oceanview cafe. However, public areas were kept very clean and there was always somebody mopping a floor or wiping down the stairway railings. Still, you won't go hungry on Celebrity Solstice and the main dining room, the glass-filled  Grand Epernay, is an impressive home base.

Where does Celebrity Summit sail to?

Flip side - on our Solstice cruise a couple of months ago, we never saw the Captain or any of his senior team members. They didn't socialise, speak to you around the ship, and even all stood together and talked at the Senior Officer Party. Even the Captain's Club Hostess didn't make an effort to greet people at the morning coffee. Some managers are better than others - and it sounds like whoever is leading on Equinox is probably more like the last group we encountered on Solstice.

And for some reason, there were no bar waiters at all in the Solarium...we never saw one. So we had to go to a bar near the pool to get a soda or sparkling water as did others who wanted something a bit stronger. Now that we are both retired, my wife and I have resumed cruising and as part of that we decided to try a few more of the main-stream lines we had not sailed before. We prefer small to medium size ships (about 100,000 GT or less with under 2,000 passengers) and have no interest in megaships. Summit was right on the upper limit of our preferred ship size and passenger capacity.

I contacted Celebrity and they told us it was probably an oversight, but still left me with a negative impression. I asked how I can prevent being charged erroneously in the future, and the Celebrity rep suggested having my room steward come take an inventory of our fridge before we leave the room. I’ve never had this happen on any other cruise, nor have I ever had to have my fridge inventoried in the mayhem of departure day.

Night Greenland & Iceland Cruise

During school holidays, the line's ships usually see a number of families with children, and the same may occur on Celebrity Edge (although the ship was not designed with families in mind). Overall, Celebrity Summit makes for a relaxing yet fun cruise experience, where food and cocktails take center stage, and Instagram-worthy moments abound. The crew, who are outgoing, engaging and committed, further elevate the experience, with plenty of senior staff engaging with passengers (photos with the captain, anyone?).

On ships without a Lawn Club, relaxing by the pool or in the Solarium is popular, as are the once- or twice-per-cruise Rooftop film and dinner events. At night, Celebrity showcases everything from Vegas-style production shows to comedians and cabaret, drawing a crowd each time. We booked a balcony guarantee and immediately were assigned a "sweet sixteen" balcony on deck 6. The room was well-located although from about 9pm until 11pm we occasionally experienced "bass" thumping from music either from the late theater show or music on the pool deck. It wasn't so loud or disturbing to be a problem but others more sensitive to such may wish to select a different location onboard for their cabin.

More about Celebrity Edge

We have not been on Equinox but have been on Solstice (twice), Silhouette, and Eclipse. We had one poor experience - on Solstice in September this year. The Silhouette cruise (a TA in April this year) was fantastic - like definitely one of the best ever. On Silhouette, we spoke to the senior officers many times and the F&B Manager spent a lot of time with passengers in all of the dining facilities - they weren't cursory conversations, he listened intently.

While Kids Are Allowed, Celebrity Edge Is Best for Adults Looking for Lively Sophistication

Many of the activities are offered courtesy of partners like Anturus, Xbox, Fat Brain Toys and Budsies. When the ship is in Europe, you can expect to find a fairly international mix of passengers. Restaurants on Celebrity Edge are straight out of any big city, from a grab-and-go gourmet deli and a reservations-only sushi spot to a high-tech French bistro with an animated dining experience you have to see to believe.

Cool sophistication is the unmistakable vibe onboard Celebrity Reflection, the biggest of the five ships in the line's mega-popular Solstice Class. I must say, we definitely noticed decline on Celebrity in terms of the dining options and level of service. It will be an interesting comparison between the service levels and food on the 2 ships. About equal to Royal Caribbean, superior to NCL and Carnival and far superior to MSC. However, we didn't find the food, service and condition of the ship as good as HAL. Our next sailing is on Seabourn and we'll be trying Viking Ocean, Silversea and RSSC as well.

Some of the more popular venues, such as Café al Bacio, Sushi on Five and the ice-covered Martini Bar, are located off the Grand Foyer; it's always a bustling area and sometimes can lack seating at prime hours. Make sure you check out the signature live tree when you use the elevators. Reflection stands out with its exceptional variety of cabins, including its beautiful suites.

Overall, the experience was wonderful as usual, which is why we continue to sail on celebrity. This was our first cruise post covid, and the first thing to note is that the ship was exceptionally clean. Apex also excels at innovation, with unique features like the heralded Magic Carpet, a cantilevered platform that juts from the side of the ship and can move up and down depending on its use. At the lowest deck, it serves as a gateway to ports, making embarkation and debarkation easy. On other decks, it's a restaurant or bar space with unparalleled views.

For the second of its Edge-class ships, the cruise line partnered with some big-name designers -- including Kelly Hoppen and Jouin Manku -- to bring an airy, modern feel to every space onboard, inside and out. And while the 2,910-passenger ship is fancy, it's not stuffy – there's a relaxed vibe throughout. Seems like the Equinox not popular at the moment, another thread relating poor experiences. Seating problems in the OVC I would think are common on most ships at peak time and an irritation that you just have to live with.

For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. All the Celebrity cruises were pretty darn good with no problems with food or service in the MDR. As far as the OVC we think it’s the best buffet of all the major cruisel lines, food and variety has always been very good. We have done 4 cruises post Covid , first on one of the first sailing after Covid was fantastic but we were in penthouse. Then did two royal suites on summit and a sky suite on beyond, food in suite restaurant definitely not as good as before also same for specialty restaurants.

Celebrity Solstice echoes the line's commitment to diversity and inclusion; you'll see people of all backgrounds and identities on the ship. Meetups for veterans, solo travelers, LGBTQ+ and sober cruisers take place daily. In addition, Celebrity hosts a Pride party onboard once per sailing in June.

On ships with the Lawn Club, hanging out on the grass, whether playing bocce or just relaxing and reading, is one of the most popular activities for Celebrity cruisers. Other popular things to do on these ships is lounge in the adults-only Solarium, hit the spa or participate in wine tasting. Some ships also offer hot glassmaking demonstrations and classes; sign up early for the classes because they fill up fast.

The kids' program is also free, though you'll pay extra for babysitting. Celebrity draws a broad range of travelers, most attracted by the cuisine, unusual entertainment and creative itineraries. Passenger ages typically average in the 50s, with family groups more visible in the summer and during school vacations.
