When is the best time to book a cruise?

best time of year to cruise

The region's rainy season begins in mid-April and extends through December. Usually, however, the rainfall does not begin to significantly increase until May. Summer is also a popular time to cruise the Caribbean, and many guests appreciate more hours of daylight during this time of year.

Best Time to Cruise Alaska: June - August

best time of year to cruise

For the uninitiated, wave season is when most of the major cruise lines run their best sales of the year. “Think of wave season as the best sale day ever that just happens to last for three months—like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Presidents’ Day all rolled into one,” writes Celebrity Cruises. That may sound like a great reason to wait to book onboard, but waiting to book a cruise until you get on a ship is a mistake. The bigger issue is there may simply not be a last-minute cruise deal to be had. Cruise ships are sailing full, and people are booking cruises earlier and in more numbers than ever before.

Caribbean Cruise Weather Forecasts - Monthly Tips

Where there is a difference during winter months is with your departure port. If you are sailing from a port in the United States (outside of South Florida), then the winter months can be cold. That means the first day of your cruise during the winter can be chilly as the ship heads south. And the truth is that you can get the same exact cruise for hundreds — and sometimes thousands — of dollars less just by sailing during the right part of the season. February just might be the best time of year to cruise the Caribbean, as blue skies and warm temperatures are the norm throughout the region. You can expect highs in the mid-80s in the Southern Caribbean, with lows typically no cooler than the mid-60s in more northern destinations like the Bahamas or Puerto Rico.

t Caribbean Cruise Tips

The name comes from the fact bookings in this period are what carry the cruise industry for the rest of the year. The typical cruise season lasts from September to April, with a break in the summer due to the region's rainy season. The Mexican Riviera also has a dry and rainy season, with the dry season from November to June and the most precipitation expected in August and September. More arid ports, such as Cabo San Lucas, will receive little rainfall year-round. If you choose to travel during peak hurricane season, there is also the risk that a hurricane or serious tropical storm will disrupt your cruise vacation.

You’ll also have more hours to look for wildlife from your room window or veranda. In the Lower 48, temperatures in June start to heat up, not so much in Alaska. Expect less activity and fewer shop openings in some smaller port towns in May since most summer workers are in college and won’t arrive until June. There are exciting marine animals that you can see this early in the Alaskan springtime. A hat, gloves, and a winter coat would be a good idea to pack for an Alaskan cruise, especially if you depart in April, May, or September. September weather in Alaska may be unpredictable but with the right preparation you can enjoy all the exciting events.

Best Day of the Week to Book a Cruise

best time of year to cruise

Doing your research beforehand can help you choose the very best time to take advantage of everything you want from your cruise vacation. No matter the month you sail, it is recommended to bring a jacket, sweater, or other warm layers. It can be chilly as your ship sails down the coast of Baja California, so it’s common to need a light jacket during the mornings and evenings while onboard. While it may surprise you, some of the most affordable months of the year to cruise the Caribbean are some of the most pleasant months to travel in the region. While it is possible to enjoy a pleasant cruising experience in the Caribbean throughout the year, it is generally understood that cruising during a summer month is the riskiest.

What to Do in Alaska: Top Things to Do in April

While Australia's weather varies, winter temperatures between June and early September are rarely as extreme in North America. Crowds are fewer, and there are bargains to be had, especially on larger ships and Great Barrier Reef cruises that are available year-round. The best time of year to book a cruise is often January through March. During this period — also known as wave season — industry-wide sales occur and the price of that cruise you've been dreaming of may drop significantly. It's also a good time to find booking promotions, like free upgrades, prepaid gratuities, or onboard spending money. If you're not interested in high-season travel or experiencing the latest cruise ship, you can play the waiting game and pounce as soon as fares drop.

When is the Best Time to Cruise the Caribbean?

Book a fare, and if you see it drop later, you can call the cruise line and get the price difference either refunded or get the difference back as onboard credit. However, if every cruise line slashed prices last-minute, people would catch on and wait to book their trip. Weather is drier and warm in December, making the early part of the month a great relaxing getaway. Rain is generally limited to the Southern Caribbean, including islands like Aruba. Ocean temperatures in the winter hover around a pleasant 79 degrees and average highs and lows in St. Kitts, for example, are 85 and 74 degrees, respectively.

Best Time to Sail for Cheap: Go When School Is in Session

Cruise fares can be cheaper, though weather in the Riviera Maya and Cozumel will be oppressively humid. While it will still be dry in the Mexican Riviera, weather in Cabo and other Pacific Coast destinations will be incredibly hot. High season is when you'll find the most cruise options, highest prices, most crowded ships and best weather. The shoulder season coincides with moderate demand and relatively nice weather, and fares will be lower. Low season is the cheapest season -- and least busy -- but may mean sacrifices in what you can see and possible cancellations due to weather.

The summer is the busiest time for vacationers, and the winter months bring whale-watching enthusiasts and surfers. There are also two major sporting events in January, so you'll want to avoid the crowds on Oahu and Maui during that month. Summer is peak season with family vacations and honeymooners, so prices will be higher then. Even though January, February and March bring more rain, the winter months are also peak season for tourists … and whales. In this post, I share a month-by-month guide about the best time of year for an Alaskan cruise. I’ve included tips on the weather, wildlife, daylight, and the general experience you’ll have each month of the Alaska cruise season to determine when to set sail for the 49th state.

Whether the winter months are the best time to book a cruise depends on which itinerary you're hoping to book and how popular that sailing is that year. In a year when Alaska cruises are popular, the wave season promotions in January and February might not be especially good because the lines don't need to discount to fill cabins. But if Alaska cruise bookings are soft, the wave season specials could be the best of the year as cruise lines pull out all the tricks to fill ships. You can usually find the best prices for an Alaska cruise during the shoulder season months of April, May, September and October.

Cruise traffic ramps up in May and June to prepare for the influx of summer-month vacationers. That means ships may be below capacity as high season comes into swing later in the summer. Short cruises remain relatively cheap, but prices for weeklong sailings increase -- some into the four-digit range, per person. Summer also is a popular time to cruise for families because children have a summer break from school.

However, if we had our pick, we would suggest either April or October if you need to fly into a cruise port. The generally good weather and low prices combine to make it a cheap and easy time to sail. Peak season for Western Mediterranean cruises runs from April through November, with stops generally in Spain, France, Italy and Malta. May and late-October Canada and New England cruises are the cheapest times to cruise, but don't expect to be using the onboard swimming pool much.

Guide to Jacksonville Cruise Port 2024

Future expansion will build beyond the five portals, including the construction of a water park. Calypso Cove is the name of an adult-friendly area coming to Carnival’s Celebration Key on Grand Bahama island when it opens in summer 2026. The site will also have a south-facing, mile-long beachfront expanse and a massive freshwater inland lagoon that the line says is the largest in the Bahamas and Caribbean. It’s the third name drop by Carnival following the reveal of welcome area Paradise Plaza and adult-friendly area Calypso Lagoon.

Day 4: Fun Day at Sea

Although you may not have as many ship options compared to itineraries departing from South Florida, it is convenient for those who may not want to drive the extra five hours to Miami. Plus, since it's a smaller port, you will not have to deal with as much traffic. Take in the beautiful weather of northern Florida as you disembark from your tour of the South. Reflect upon the wonderful time had and the new friends made as you start your journey home. Or stay a day or two longer to experience all that Jacksonville has to offer.

Carnival Elation

Guests can expect this ship to inspire you to have tons of vacation fun. Carnival Elation also features multiple bars, from the mystical Alchemy Bar to the friendly poolside rivals RedFrog Rum Bar and Blue Iguana Tequila Bar. Don’t forget everybody’s friend, the always-swinging Duke’s Piano Bar. Some of these experiences have an extra fee, but it’s always worth it. This is the complete schedule of cruises leaving from Jacksonville Florida in 2024.

The Asian boxshipping trade increased 12% (to nearly 429,000 TEUs). Since we didn't have to collect any luggage, we joined the passport line and were out of the terminal in minutes! There was hardly any traffic leaving, so we were on the road in no time. I appreciated Jacksonville's parking situation compared to ports like Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale. Unless you live a few hours away via car, it's advisable that you arrive in Jacksonville the night before your cruise.

Per JAXPORT's website, there's free parking available for drivers with a state-issued disabled veterans plate, as well as those with a permanently affixed Florida Toll Exemption decal. Numerous airlines fly into JAX, though, so whether you're a loyal American, Delta, United, or Southwest fan, you should be able to find a flight that meets your needs. Since it's smaller, you may have to connect through an airline's hub, especially if you are flying from a smaller airport. Note that Carnival doesn't offer any transportation from the airport, so you will be responsible for making your own arrangements.

At WJXT, we are committed to informing and delighting our audience. In our commitment to covering our communities with innovation and excellence, we incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to enhance our news gathering, reporting, and presentation processes. Read our article to see how we are using Artificial Intelligence. Carnival's JAXPORT cruise operations serve annually around 170,000 passengers. Port's first-ever cruise vessel with regularly scheduled service from JAXPORT was MV Zenith - starting turnaround operations in October 2003.

Then, you'll follow the same instructions as those who are arriving from north of Jacksonville by taking Exit 362A onto I-295 South, etc. Passengers arriving from the west will have to take I-10 toward Jacksonville before taking Exit 356 onto I-295 North. After roughly ten minutes, you'll reach Exit 41 for Zoo Parkway/Heckscher Drive. Stay on the road until you arrive at August Drive, then enter the cruise terminal and proceed to parking.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Carnival Cruise Line has released another round of updates on what travelers can expect when its new private destination Grand Bahama Celebration Key opens. However, if you are ever dissatisfied with any aspect of our service or our Web site, pleaseclick hereto tell me about it. I will respond as quickly as possible, and always within 24 hours. In February 2005, during the Super Bowl XXXIX, JAXPORT housed 4 floating hotels, with a total of 3500 staterooms for the football fans in addition to all the onboard nightclubs, restaurants, bars and cafes. Something I didn't think about, however, is that rolling heavy suitcases down the steep gangway was more difficult than I thought. If I ever cruise out of Jacksonville again, I will take advantage of the cruise line's standard disembarkation, in which you leave your suitcases in the hall the night before.

Carnival Cruises From Jacksonville

Get the best of a laid-back beach town and a buzzing city when you book a Carnival cruise from the beautiful port of Jacksonville, Florida. The Sunshine State’s largest city has a redeveloped and revitalized downtown, full of upbeat shopping and lively restaurants, bisected by the scenic St. Johns River and its Southbank Riverwalk. Jacksonville is a gateway to the islands of the Bahamas but you’ll also have 20 miles of sandy beach life and endless acres of wildlife parks to enjoy before you board your Carnival cruise from Jacksonville. In 2017, JAXPORT's total vehicle throughput was 693,000 units (record year). By volume, the port is the USA's second-largest vehicle-handling port. JAXPORT serves 3 major auto processing companies (AMPORTS, "Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics", Toyota) and offers international service from 13 of the world’s largest Ro-Ro carriers.

Jaxport provides secure parking for Jacksonville cruise passengers. The well-lit and secured parking space on the Jaxport property is located near the Cruise Terminal building. Carnival cruise ships depart from Jaxport Cruise Terminal, an easily accessible location with ample parking, right off I-295. There are also small ship cruises out of Jacksonville to the historic Southern coast and to Florida rivers.

The cruise line will homeport in Jacksonville from November to April every year through 2028. In the late 1800s, oil tycoon Henry Flagler developed St. Augustine in an attempt to fulfill his vision of establishing an American Riviera along Florida's eastern shores. Although this "golden era" ended in the early 1900s, Flagler's legacy remains. Explore historic ruins, unique architecture, and the narrow streets of a city once used as a remote outpost by the Spanish Empire. Travel along one of the most impressive stretches of inland waterways in the United States, the Tolomato River. Witness many spectacular sites, including a rare glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean, visible over the Barrier Islands.

Located just a few minutes away on Zoo Parkway are Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts Express, with the latter being located inside the Pilot Travel Center. When I stopped by for a post-cruise coffee before my drive back to North Carolina, I was a tad disappointed. Finally, if you are flying into Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), the best way to reach the terminal is to hire a rideshare, as it's only about 11 miles, or 25 minutes, away. If, however, you are renting a car, you will leave the airport via Airport Road and head east on I-95.

Celebrity Cruises: Ask a Question Cruise Critic Message Board Forums

celebrity cruise critic

The cabin was cleaned twice daily with chocolates on the pillows on nights one and two only. There was a substantial amount of rust on the balcony and visible on many of the balcony supports above us and visible from windows in the Oceanview cafe. However, public areas were kept very clean and there was always somebody mopping a floor or wiping down the stairway railings. Still, you won't go hungry on Celebrity Solstice and the main dining room, the glass-filled  Grand Epernay, is an impressive home base.

Where does Celebrity Summit sail to?

Flip side - on our Solstice cruise a couple of months ago, we never saw the Captain or any of his senior team members. They didn't socialise, speak to you around the ship, and even all stood together and talked at the Senior Officer Party. Even the Captain's Club Hostess didn't make an effort to greet people at the morning coffee. Some managers are better than others - and it sounds like whoever is leading on Equinox is probably more like the last group we encountered on Solstice.

And for some reason, there were no bar waiters at all in the Solarium...we never saw one. So we had to go to a bar near the pool to get a soda or sparkling water as did others who wanted something a bit stronger. Now that we are both retired, my wife and I have resumed cruising and as part of that we decided to try a few more of the main-stream lines we had not sailed before. We prefer small to medium size ships (about 100,000 GT or less with under 2,000 passengers) and have no interest in megaships. Summit was right on the upper limit of our preferred ship size and passenger capacity.

Night South Korea To Japan Cruise

I contacted Celebrity and they told us it was probably an oversight, but still left me with a negative impression. I asked how I can prevent being charged erroneously in the future, and the Celebrity rep suggested having my room steward come take an inventory of our fridge before we leave the room. I’ve never had this happen on any other cruise, nor have I ever had to have my fridge inventoried in the mayhem of departure day.

Night Greenland & Iceland Cruise

During school holidays, the line's ships usually see a number of families with children, and the same may occur on Celebrity Edge (although the ship was not designed with families in mind). Overall, Celebrity Summit makes for a relaxing yet fun cruise experience, where food and cocktails take center stage, and Instagram-worthy moments abound. The crew, who are outgoing, engaging and committed, further elevate the experience, with plenty of senior staff engaging with passengers (photos with the captain, anyone?).

Related Cruises

On ships without a Lawn Club, relaxing by the pool or in the Solarium is popular, as are the once- or twice-per-cruise Rooftop film and dinner events. At night, Celebrity showcases everything from Vegas-style production shows to comedians and cabaret, drawing a crowd each time. We booked a balcony guarantee and immediately were assigned a "sweet sixteen" balcony on deck 6. The room was well-located although from about 9pm until 11pm we occasionally experienced "bass" thumping from music either from the late theater show or music on the pool deck. It wasn't so loud or disturbing to be a problem but others more sensitive to such may wish to select a different location onboard for their cabin.

More about Celebrity Edge

We have not been on Equinox but have been on Solstice (twice), Silhouette, and Eclipse. We had one poor experience - on Solstice in September this year. The Silhouette cruise (a TA in April this year) was fantastic - like definitely one of the best ever. On Silhouette, we spoke to the senior officers many times and the F&B Manager spent a lot of time with passengers in all of the dining facilities - they weren't cursory conversations, he listened intently.

While Kids Are Allowed, Celebrity Edge Is Best for Adults Looking for Lively Sophistication

Many of the activities are offered courtesy of partners like Anturus, Xbox, Fat Brain Toys and Budsies. When the ship is in Europe, you can expect to find a fairly international mix of passengers. Restaurants on Celebrity Edge are straight out of any big city, from a grab-and-go gourmet deli and a reservations-only sushi spot to a high-tech French bistro with an animated dining experience you have to see to believe.

Cool sophistication is the unmistakable vibe onboard Celebrity Reflection, the biggest of the five ships in the line's mega-popular Solstice Class. I must say, we definitely noticed decline on Celebrity in terms of the dining options and level of service. It will be an interesting comparison between the service levels and food on the 2 ships. About equal to Royal Caribbean, superior to NCL and Carnival and far superior to MSC. However, we didn't find the food, service and condition of the ship as good as HAL. Our next sailing is on Seabourn and we'll be trying Viking Ocean, Silversea and RSSC as well.

Some of the more popular venues, such as Café al Bacio, Sushi on Five and the ice-covered Martini Bar, are located off the Grand Foyer; it's always a bustling area and sometimes can lack seating at prime hours. Make sure you check out the signature live tree when you use the elevators. Reflection stands out with its exceptional variety of cabins, including its beautiful suites.

Overall, the experience was wonderful as usual, which is why we continue to sail on celebrity. This was our first cruise post covid, and the first thing to note is that the ship was exceptionally clean. Apex also excels at innovation, with unique features like the heralded Magic Carpet, a cantilevered platform that juts from the side of the ship and can move up and down depending on its use. At the lowest deck, it serves as a gateway to ports, making embarkation and debarkation easy. On other decks, it's a restaurant or bar space with unparalleled views.

For the second of its Edge-class ships, the cruise line partnered with some big-name designers -- including Kelly Hoppen and Jouin Manku -- to bring an airy, modern feel to every space onboard, inside and out. And while the 2,910-passenger ship is fancy, it's not stuffy – there's a relaxed vibe throughout. Seems like the Equinox not popular at the moment, another thread relating poor experiences. Seating problems in the OVC I would think are common on most ships at peak time and an irritation that you just have to live with.

For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. All the Celebrity cruises were pretty darn good with no problems with food or service in the MDR. As far as the OVC we think it’s the best buffet of all the major cruisel lines, food and variety has always been very good. We have done 4 cruises post Covid , first on one of the first sailing after Covid was fantastic but we were in penthouse. Then did two royal suites on summit and a sky suite on beyond, food in suite restaurant definitely not as good as before also same for specialty restaurants.

Celebrity Solstice echoes the line's commitment to diversity and inclusion; you'll see people of all backgrounds and identities on the ship. Meetups for veterans, solo travelers, LGBTQ+ and sober cruisers take place daily. In addition, Celebrity hosts a Pride party onboard once per sailing in June.

On ships with the Lawn Club, hanging out on the grass, whether playing bocce or just relaxing and reading, is one of the most popular activities for Celebrity cruisers. Other popular things to do on these ships is lounge in the adults-only Solarium, hit the spa or participate in wine tasting. Some ships also offer hot glassmaking demonstrations and classes; sign up early for the classes because they fill up fast.

The kids' program is also free, though you'll pay extra for babysitting. Celebrity draws a broad range of travelers, most attracted by the cuisine, unusual entertainment and creative itineraries. Passenger ages typically average in the 50s, with family groups more visible in the summer and during school vacations.
